Improve posture and/or curvature of the spine with Burke’s outpatient Scoliosis Rehabilitation, offered at several convenient locations in the New York Metro Area. Our specialized therapists use Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercise to tailor treatment specifically to you or your loved one, including your child or teenager.
Physiotherapy Scoliosis Specific Exercise (PSSE)
PSSE utilizes tailored exercises to help strengthen a curved spine. This treatment can help patients of all ages experiencing:
- Scoliosis - an abnormal curvature of the spine that may look like the letter “C” or “S” when viewed from the back. It can be present at birth or develop during childhood or as an adult.
- Kyphosis - a rounding in the upper trunk and shoulders that can compress the spine and ribs. When it occurs in children, it’s known as Scheuermann’s Disease.
Benefits of Scoliosis Rehabilitation
Receiving physical therapy that utilizes PSSE can help to:
- Improve posture
- Stop the progression of the curve
- Improve breathing
- Reduce pain
- Prevent surgery
- Achieve optimal spinal alignment, regardless of the degree of curvature
- Improve quality of life
