Arrival at Burke

If you have been cleared for admission to Burke, medical transportation will bring you directly to the hospital. Our Admissions staff will greet you at our new Alice B. Harmon Patient Welcome Center. This entrance is reserved for arriving patients and offers a safe, serene, and comfortable welcome.

Burke’s Admissions staff will help you complete any forms. You will then be transported directly to your room to be greeted by your nursing team and to settle in to your new surroundings. Your therapy will begin the day after admission. The doctor in charge of your care will see you as soon as possible. The Patient Experience Team will look in on you early in your stay and periodically thereafter.

For more information on admissions, call Burke's Screening Department at (914) 597-2800.

Leaving the Hospital

As soon as you come to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital, your team starts planning for discharge and life after inpatient care. Our goal is to help you return to the place you lived before coming to the hospital. The average length of stay at Burke is based on each patient’s individual situation and can vary from one week to several. The discharge date could change depending on your progress and other factors. Your journey may continue with outpatient therapy, home care, or at a sub-acute rehabilitation facility. We will help you make the transition for continuing care, based on recommendations made by the medical team.
